Miami is known as the “Gateway to The Americas”. Having lived there for a few years, I found it to be the “Gateway to the World.” One of the great things about living there was the people I would have the pleasure of meeting from all around the globe.
One year for Thanksgiving, my neighbor Claudio invited me to dinner. Claudio from Italy, had a beautiful Peruvian wife named Bridgette. Claudio loved to cook so I knew I was in for a real treat. Also attending the dinner was Pedro from Spain and his beautiful wife Barbara from Brazil. There’s something about South American women. Hmmm. But I digress. And finally there was the seventy-something retired flight attendant from Lufthansa Airlines in Germany who brought us some of her homemade “hooch”.
As part of the toasting before dinner, Claudio mentioned how he thought Thanksgiving was one of the best American holidays. “It’s great how families and friends gather to be truly thankful for all of their blessings and celebrate with a great feast.” So, here I was, the lone American amongst friends from all parts of the world, celebrating an American tradition. It was quite a memorable experience. At least what I could remember prior to the “hooch”!
As we approach this Thanksgiving, while times may be tough we still have much to be thankful for. Here in Ocean City, Maryland, we have a beautiful setting in which we get to experience our daily lives. Here at Ruark Golf, we are thankful to all of you who make the trip to experience our wonderful courses and facilities. We hope you have a chance to gather with family and friends this holiday season and maybe even throw in a little golf together as well.
