Golf Ethics Question

No one ever promised all decisions would be easy!

What if you were playing in the club championship tournament finals and the match was halved at the end of 17 holes. You had the honor and hit your ball a modest two hundred fifty yards to the middle of the fairway, leaving a simple six iron to the pin.

Your opponent then hits his ball, lofting it deep into the woods to the right of the fairway. Being the golfing gentleman that you are, you help your opponent look for his ball. Just before the permitted five minute search period ends, your opponent says: “Go ahead and hit your second shot and if I don’t find it in time, I’ll concede the match.”

You hit your ball, landing it on the green, stopping about ten feet from the pin. About the time your ball comes to rest, you hear your opponent exclaim from deep in the woods: “I found it!”. The second sound you hear is a click, the sound of a club striking a ball and the ball comes sailing out of the woods and lands on the green, stopping no more than six inches from the hole.

Now here is the ethical dilemma:
Do you pull the cheating bastards ball out of your pocket and confront him with it or do you keep your mouth shut?

Well, it looks like that little rodent up in Punxutawney, PA took my threats to his safety seriously. He offered up a prediction of an early Spring. With two tough winters in a row and no avenue for escape, he did the right thing.

White Christmas

By the looks of our weather forecasting friends, we may be in for a
White Christmas this year. Ah ,the serenity of a white blanketed golf course with the flag pole sticking up out of the snow makes for a great Christmas card. You’re hard pressed to find a more beautiful wintery scene than here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. With our beautiful beaches, waterways, marshlands, farmland and forested areas, you don’t have to go far to find a postcard moment.
So, what’s all this have to do with golf?
Absolutely nothing! I can’t wait for this stuff to be gone so I can stick a tee in the ground and let it rip! But, in the mean time,Christmas time is here and that means gift cards for the golfer in your family. Ruark Golf gift cards make a great gift. They can be used at any of the Ruark Golf properties for golf or merchandise.
So, while we’re waiting for the spring thaw, giving the gift of golf can make it feel a little bit closer.

Your Own Ryder Cup

Sure we lost, but that was one of the most exciting Ryder Cups in a long time. A great comeback by Rickie Fowler. Great play by US Open Champion Graeme McDowell held off Hunter Mahan’s charge. Here at GlenRiddle, you can have your own Ryder Cup. With our two different golf courses, the Man O’War, a European links style course and the War Admiral, an American style parkland course, you can feel like you’re playing on two different continents and never leave the premises. You can then celebrate your victory or drown your sorrows in our Ruth’s Chris Steak House after golf. So choose your sides, pick your formats and call our call center at 1-888-424-8004 and we’ll be happy to give you our best package deals.

Summer in OC!

There’s no place like Ocean City in the summertime. The beaches are filled with the sights and sounds of families enjoying the breaking waves. The smell of Thrasher’s Fries wafting across the sand dunes. The restaurants and clubs beckon your presence with excellent menus and the rhythms of the area’s finest musicians.
But even with all of that going on, your trip is not complete without throwing some golf into the mix. During the summer, you will find the golf courses in excellent shape and at a great value.
Here at Ruark Golf we offer the Triple Play Series cards. We have three packages that offer up a some of the area’s finest courses at substantial savings.
The Platinum Triple Play gets you a round at Lighthouse Sound, Glen Riddle’s War Admiral and Rum point for just $235 per person.
The Triple Crown packages together Glen Riddles’ Man O’War and War Admiral along with Rum Pointe for only $199 per person.
The Gold Triple Play delivers Lighthouse Sound, Man O’War and the Beach Club for just $179 per person.
With deals like these, you may just forget there’s a beach nearby.

Necessary Evil

There is no better reward in golf than seeing your ball roll true on the path you set it on and fall into the cup. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing your ball heading towards it’s intended target only to bounce off line and stray from the hole. Golf is played on a natural, living surface, outdoors. “Rub of the green” is the term used in the rules of golf to define those wayward bounces that occur during your round of golf. Basically the concept is: It happens, deal with it!
In order to give you the best possible conditions for putting, a necessary evil must take place each year, aeration. As all golfers ascend to the green, the soil below gets compacted. When that happens, air and water have difficulty reaching all the way through the root structure and the grass suffers. The answer is to punch holes in the soil and top-dress with sand. The holes allow room for the soil to breath and break up the compaction. Topdressing with sand helps smooth the putting surface while still allowing the soil breathing room. While this does not make for premium putting conditions immediately afterward, it is necessary to have a prime putting surface for the season.
At Ruark Golf, we have finished the aeration process and the greens are coming back nicely. With all of the snow and rain we’ve had during the off-season, we should be in great shape for the golf season. So, knock the dust off your clubs and get ready to play. And, if you’re still missing too many putts, just see one of our pros, we can help with that too.

Little Rodent

So, yesterday in a little town in Pennsylvania, a rodent was pulled out of his nice, comfortable den and asked by his human captors what he thought the weather would be. Naturally, if the same thing happened to you, you would not express yourself in the most dignified manner. “Six more weeks of winter for you to deal with.” he proclaimed!
I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen enough snow this year already. I’m not going to let a little varmint determine my future. I actually see more golf in my future. The good thing about the Ocean City area is that the snow doesn’t stick around here forever. While we got more than usual this year, it does tend to disappear quicker here than most places west of us.
While we’re waiting for the snow to leave, there is plenty to do to get ready to play. If you are planning a golf trip, be sure to call our Ruark Golf Call Center at 1-866-441-4536 soon. We have some great deals available for a Spring golf excursion, but with tee-times filling up you better hurry and book yours now! Also, our winter rates are exceptional this time of year. With our covered carts, you can keep your golf muscles in shape and be comfortable as well.
So dust of your sticks and let’s show that little furball who is in charge. Let’s tee it up!
